AYF Press Statement - 22nd August 2011
The National Executive Committee of the Arewa Youths Forum (AYF) held an emergency meeting in Kaduna at the weekend.
We extensively deliberated on the foregoing political cum other challenges that involve, the lingering insecurity across the country and also the communal, religious and ethnic crises that kept on reoccurring in few states along with the serious economic hardship being experienced by Nigerians across the length and bread of the country irrespective of religion, region, ethnicity or political inclinations’.
We also decried the inhuman and complete denigration of Nigerian pensioners, people with disabilities, considering the outright excruciating conditions they are in without succor but series of tales that have not been able to overcome years of the increasing hardship of pensioners who have dutifully made sacrifices for the development and stability of Nigeria.
Another worrisome matter we deliberated upon is the abysmal collapse of the health and education systems despite series of promises and government commitment in ameliorating the challenges, particularly in the rural areas where there are total absent of other qualitative social amenities.
Finally, the nation and the entire world following situations as they unfold in Nigeria heard and followed with shame and lose of statesmanship of the duo of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, both former leaders of the country who exhibited highest insensitive tantrum unexpected of past leaders ever witnessed in the history of Nigeria.
They throw away supposed morality, decorum and sensibilities of their being past military president and democratic president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the mud and unconsciously and consciously throw invectives at one another, without sense of shame and abused of the exalted highest office in the land their tantrum did.
The throwing of invectives and the cold war exchanges by Obasanjo and Babangida last week, was a national shame and disgrace, it is also abuse of Nigerian leadership because it dented the image of our country and again, it has confirmed assertions that wholesomely of their 19 years as Nigeria’s helmsmen was nothing but retrogressive of Nigeria as a country. And the nation is still licking wounds of their mal-administration and ill running of our dear country, at least even if for nothing their feud have said it all going by the vituperation they all stated in their fisticuffs.
It is on this that we make the following recommendations:
- That they be suspended from the National Council of State, considering the fact that the NCS is a well respectful national advisory council that aadvises the President in the exercise of his powers with respect to the: Prerogative of mercy; Okaying sensitive and critical national appointments and consent as well of national policies. Award of national honours, and advise the President whenever requested to do so on the maintenance of public order within the Federation or any part thereof and on such other matters as the President may direct.
- That Federal Government should set up a high powered committee to investigate their about 19 years leadership of the country with the aim of unraveling national lost and pride the country suffered because of their actions, since their feud was on the way and manner they managed national affairs of Nigeria.
- That their national Grand Commander of the Federal Republic titles (GCFR) be strip going by their ‘unpresidential’ war of abuse unbecoming of elderly statesmen. They should as a matter of national consciousness of threat to Nigeria’s stability render an unreserved apology to the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
That it is important and expedient that Nigerians insist that morality be uphold in our leadership stake, because another rut that is rocking our pride as a nation is in the heart domain of our judiciary, the Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu Vs Justic Ayo Salami’s saga, and the National Judicial Council.
