Press Release - Disclaimer on Leadership Post
It is with utter surprise and disbelief that we saw the logo of Arewa Youth Forum used on an Arewa Youth Parliament Leadership Newspaper Tweet story of Tuesday April 21, 2015 captioned “Arewa Youths Endorse Akume for Senate President”, reported by one Ekele Peter Agbo.
For the record, the Arewa Youth Forum (AYF) is a rainbow platform of reputable Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) spread across the nineteen (19) Northern States, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, some Southern States and the Diaspora. Being a non-political, secular, non-ethnic, gender friendly, Youth mentoring, national unity and integration, sustainable peace and socio-economic development driven organisation; the AYF has spent fourteen (14) years in development work and selfless service to humanity through volunteer effort. As part of our development work, we make, periodically, objective and informed observations on issues of good governance and delivery of Democracy dividends to all leadership structures, issues which affects the lives of ordinary Nigerians; and as well, we proffer recommendations as at when due.
While we acknowledge the rights of individuals and or groups to use their freedom of expression as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution to air their views of National interest, endorsing political actors is not our modus operandi nor has it been part of any of our resolutions or actions.
Therefore, we object in the strongest possible terms the use of our logo in your tweet story. If it is the group that gave you our logo, it is both legally and morally wrong; and if it is an honest mistake, an apology here by you is in order and shall be very well appreciated.
